St. Edwards Church in York has recently undergone a complete audio visual (AV) installation, significantly upgrading its technology to improve both worship services and events. The project focused on modernizing the church’s AV capabilities with high-performance equipment, providing superior picture quality, flexible connectivity, and an enhanced experience for clergy and congregation alike.

Upgrading the Display System

A key part of the project involved replacing the outdated VGA distribution system with a state-of-the-art Kramer HDMI over DGKAT 6 distribution system. This upgrade feeds five large-screen TVs placed strategically throughout the church, delivering noticeably clearer and more vibrant images for all viewers.

The enhanced distribution system allows presentations, slides, and live video feeds to reach every corner of the church, improving both visibility and engagement. This makes services, lectures, and special events more immersive and accessible for everyone in attendance.

PTZ Camera for Service Capture and Broadcast

To enable high-quality recording and broadcasting, the installation included a Maxone PTZ camera and dedicated camera controller. This setup provides St. Edwards Church with versatile options for live-streaming services, recording sermons, or capturing special events with professional-grade clarity.

Custom Priest Preview Monitor

Understanding the need for functionality and discreet integration, we commissioned Quadra AV to create a custom-built wooden cabinet for the priest. This bespoke cabinet houses a Samsung 22″ monitor at a comfortable low level and is fitted with wheels for easy movement and storage. This thoughtful design ensures that clergy have a dedicated preview monitor while maintaining a clean and unobtrusive appearance in the church environment.

Enhanced Connectivity for Presenters

To further improve usability, a Kramer HDMI over CAT 6 wall plate was installed at the front of the church. This allows presenters to easily connect laptops and display content on the church’s screens, supporting dynamic presentations, lectures, and interactive services.

The existing wooden cabinet at the rear of the church was cleverly repurposed. We integrated a Kramer 1 in 8 out HDMI distribution amplifier with six HDMI over CAT6 senders and a Kramer HDMI over CAT6 receiver, connected to the front wall plate. This setup enables seamless signal transmission throughout the church, ensuring consistent picture quality on all screens.

The combination of enhanced HDMI distribution, PTZ camera capture, dedicated preview monitors, and flexible connectivity options ensures the church can support a wide range of services, presentations, and events.

As part of the comprehensive AV upgrade at St. Edwards Church, we focused on enhancing the church’s CCTV capabilities to improve visibility and engagement during services and events. The original fixed camera provided only a static view of the altar on all TV screens throughout the church and in the main hall, limiting flexibility for staff and viewers alike.

To address this, we installed a Maxone Pan & Tilt high-definition dome camera, paired with a user-friendly PTZ (Pan-Tilt-Zoom) controller. Positioned in the same location as the original camera, this upgrade provides dynamic control over the camera’s field of view, enabling staff to adjust the camera remotely and focus on any area at the front of the church.

The addition of PTZ functionality ensures that all activities—including sermons, musical performances, and special ceremonies—can be clearly captured and broadcast across the church’s screens. High-definition image quality further enhances the viewing experience, delivering crisp, detailed visuals that keep congregants and remote viewers fully engaged.
