We recently completed a sound system installation in Leeds, designing and installing a professional audio solution for three newly refurbished meeting rooms used for interviews and confidential discussions.

Each meeting space features a participant room and a separate observation room, divided by one-way glass to allow discreet monitoring. The goal of the project was to provide clear speech capture and reliable audio monitoring, ensuring interviews can be conducted and recorded with excellent clarity.

Dual Microphone System for Clear Speech Capture

To ensure high-quality audio pickup during meetings and interviews, we installed a dual microphone system in each room.

The system includes:

  • Audio-Technica PRO 45 microphones mounted above the desks

  • Audio-Technica PRO 44 units placed on the meeting table

The overhead microphones capture clear audio from participants seated at the desk, while the desktop microphones provide an alternative option when tables are moved or different room layouts are used. This flexible approach ensures consistent audio capture regardless of room configuration.

Automatic Microphone Control

Microphone selection and management are handled using the Audio-Technica ATDM-604. This system allows seamless switching between microphones and ensures the correct audio source is active at all times.

The automatic mixer simplifies operation and maintains optimal audio performance during interviews without requiring technical intervention.

Observation Room Audio Monitoring

In each observation room, we installed a pair of Apart Audio Kubo 5T speakers mounted at high level to provide clear monitoring audio for observers.

Each speaker system includes an Apart Audio in-line volume control, allowing users to adjust the listening level independently without affecting the interview room. This ensures observers can comfortably monitor conversations without disrupting the session in progress.

Centralised Audio System Control

All equipment is centrally located within a dedicated communications room, allowing easy monitoring and maintenance of the entire system.

Each meeting room system includes:

  • Audio-Technica ATDM-604 automatic microphone mixer

  • TOA Corporation A-2060 mixer amplifier

The automatic microphone mixers operate using pre-configured settings and require no user intervention, ensuring reliable operation and consistent audio performance across all three meeting rooms.

As part of this sound system and AV installation in Leeds, we also implemented a comprehensive HDMI distribution system to support presentations and content sharing between the participant and observation rooms.

A key requirement for the facility was the ability to display laptop content simultaneously in both rooms, allowing observers to view presentations and interview materials in real time.

Professional HDMI Signal Distribution

To achieve this, we installed high-quality Kramer Electronics HDMI cabling beneath the floor, ensuring a clean and discreet installation while maintaining reliable signal transmission.

The system uses a 1-in-2-out HDMI splitter, allowing a single laptop or presentation source to be displayed on screens in both the participant room and the observation room at the same time.

This configuration enables:

  • Simultaneous content display in both rooms

  • Real-time monitoring of presentations and interviews

  • Consistent visual output across both displays

Reliable High-Quality Video Signal

The Kramer HDMI infrastructure ensures stable and high-quality signal distribution, minimising signal loss while maintaining excellent image clarity. This allows both display screens to receive identical content without any degradation in picture quality.
