Professional Sound System Install for Interview and Observation Rooms

Definition Audio Visual recently completed a professional sound system install in Leeds, designing and installing a bespoke audio visual solution for three newly refurbished interview and meeting rooms.

The facility required a reliable audio system capable of supporting confidential interviews, assessments and meetings, while allowing observers to discreetly monitor conversations from adjoining observation rooms through one-way glass.

The completed installation delivers crystal-clear speech capture, independent audio monitoring and seamless video distribution, creating a professional environment that is simple to operate and highly reliable.

High-Quality Speech Capture

Clear audio was a critical requirement for this project, so each interview room was equipped with a dual microphone system designed to capture speech accurately regardless of room layout.

Each room includes:

• Audio-Technica PRO 45 overhead microphones positioned above the interview desks
• Audio-Technica PRO 44 boundary microphones installed on the meeting tables

Using both ceiling-mounted and desktop microphones provides maximum flexibility, ensuring excellent speech intelligibility whether participants remain seated at the desk or the room layout changes for different interview formats.

Automatic Microphone Mixing

To simplify operation, every room is fitted with an Audio-Technica ATDM-604 automatic microphone mixer.

The intelligent mixer automatically selects and manages active microphones, maintaining consistent audio quality without requiring manual adjustment by staff.

This automated operation ensures reliable performance during interviews while eliminating unnecessary technical intervention.

Observation Room Audio Monitoring

Each interview room is paired with a dedicated observation room, allowing interviewers, assessors or supervisors to monitor discussions discreetly.

For clear monitoring audio, we installed a pair of Apart Audio Kubo 5T loudspeakers in each observation room.

Each speaker system is fitted with an independent volume control, allowing observers to adjust listening levels without affecting the interview room or interrupting the session.

The result is comfortable, high-quality audio monitoring that supports confidential assessments and professional interviews.

Centralised Audio Equipment

All system equipment is installed within a dedicated communications room, providing a secure and organised location for maintenance and system management.

Each room is powered by:

• Audio-Technica ATDM-604 automatic microphone mixer
• TOA A-2060 mixer amplifier

Housing the equipment centrally simplifies servicing while ensuring reliable operation across all three interview suites.

Professional HDMI Distribution System

Alongside the audio installation, we implemented a fully integrated HDMI distribution system to support presentations and collaborative meetings.

A key requirement was the ability to display presentation content simultaneously within both the participant room and adjoining observation room.

Using professional Kramer Electronics HDMI distribution equipment, we created a reliable system that allows a single presentation source to be viewed in both spaces at the same time.

High-Quality Video Connectivity

HDMI cabling was installed beneath the floor to create a discreet, professional finish while maintaining maximum signal reliability.

The installation incorporates a 1-input, 2-output HDMI distribution amplifier, allowing laptops and presentation devices to send identical high-definition content to both displays simultaneously.

This provides:

• Simultaneous presentation display in both rooms
• Live observation of interview materials
• High-definition image quality
• Reliable signal transmission without image degradation
