Sound System Installation Halifax

We are pleased to announce the successful completion of a sound system installation in Halifax at Trinity Sixth Form Academy. The project was carried out within the academy’s newly constructed drama department, providing a professional audio solution designed to support theatrical productions, rehearsals, and classroom learning.

Our team was tasked with designing and installing a flexible and high-performance sound system that would meet the needs of both teaching staff and students while delivering clear and powerful audio throughout the drama space.

Professional Drama Studio Speaker System

To achieve consistent sound coverage across the performance area, we installed four Electro-Voice ZX1 wall-mounted speakers, each capable of delivering up to 200 watts of power.

The speakers were strategically positioned as follows:

• Two speakers installed within the main drama studio
• Two additional speakers positioned just outside the classroom

This configuration ensures seamless sound coverage across the entire space, particularly when the room is opened up for larger rehearsals or performances.

Flexible Control with Portable Audio Rack

To provide flexible control options, we supplied a 16U portable flight case from Swan Flight. This allows the academy to operate the sound system from two different control positions — one inside the classroom and another within the extended performance area.

By connecting to strategically installed Speakon speaker sockets, users can easily relocate the control system depending on how the space is being used.

Digital Mixing and Audio Control

The flight case houses a Allen & Heath Qu-16, a professional 16-channel digital mixer that serves as the central hub of the audio system.

The mixer allows staff and students to:

• Control microphones and audio sources
• Manage playback from the media player
• Program scenes and sound settings for different productions

This level of control provides a professional theatre-style audio mixing environment for performances and rehearsals.

Wireless Microphone Systems

To support drama productions and presentations, the system includes a range of wireless microphones powered through Audio-Technica equipment.

The installation includes:

• Four handheld wireless microphone systems
• Four lapel wireless microphone systems

To ensure reliable wireless operation, two Audio-Technica ATW-DA49 units were installed within the flight case, providing stable RF signal distribution across all microphones.

Amplification and Audio Playback

The speaker system is powered by a QSC GX5 stereo amplifier, delivering clean and powerful audio to the four Electro-Voice ZX1 speakers.

For media playback, the system also includes a Denon media player, allowing staff to play music, sound effects, and backing tracks during productions and rehearsals.

Each fixture is mounted on a tripod lighting stand, allowing them to be positioned around the performance space to create dynamic stage lighting effects and highlight performers effectively.

This setup provides the flexibility to design lighting for:

Professional Lighting Control System

To manage the lighting rig, we installed a Zero 88 24 Channel DMX Lighting Desk, enabling precise and creative lighting control.

This professional lighting console allows users to:

• Program lighting scenes

• Control brightness levels and colour changes

• Create lighting effects during performances

• Adjust lighting in real time

The system gives students hands-on experience with industry-standard stage lighting control.

Wireless DMX Lighting Control

To simplify setup and reduce cable runs across the drama studio floor, we also incorporated a **Chauvet DJ wireless DMX sender and receiver system.

This wireless solution allows the lighting desk to communicate with the LED fixtures without the need for extensive DMX cabling, offering several benefits:

• Faster setup for productions

• Reduced cable clutter

• Improved safety in the performance area

• Greater flexibility when positioning lighting fixtures
