Sound System Installation Leeds – Roundhay Hall

We were contracted to deliver a complete sound system installation in Leeds at Roundhay Hall. The existing 100-volt line speaker system had become unreliable, and the client required a modern, flexible audio solution suitable for sermons, live events, and cinema screenings.

Our solution replaced the outdated system with a high-quality, scalable PA and surround sound setup designed to provide excellent speech clarity and full-range audio coverage throughout the hall.

Main Hall PA System Installation

To ensure even sound distribution across the venue, we installed:

4 x Electro-Voice ZX1 Black wall-mounted speakers
1 x QSC stereo amplifier
1 x Cloud Electronics single-zone mixer
1 x Allen & Heath ZED18 PA mixer

The Electro-Voice ZX1 speakers were mounted on either side of the hall, delivering consistent coverage and clear intelligibility for both speech and music.

All primary amplification and control equipment were installed in the sound equipment cabinet beneath the stage, alongside the existing Ampetronic hearing loop amplifier, ensuring accessibility compliance remains in place.

Wireless Microphone System

For sermons, presentations, and events, we supplied and integrated:

Audio-Technica handheld radio microphones
Audio-Technica over-ear (headset) wireless microphones

All wireless systems are securely housed in a durable Swan Flight flight case, providing portability and protection.

Cinema Surround Sound System Installation

As part of the project, we were also asked to design a surround sound system for a cinema group that hosts film nights in the hall.

To achieve this, we expanded the system by installing:

2 x Electro-Voice ZX1 speakers as rear surround speakers (mounted on the back wall)
1 x Electro-Voice ZX1 speaker as a centre channel speaker (mounted on stage)

In the rear equipment cabinet, we installed additional amplifiers and an AV receiver, which is used solely as a pre-amplifier. This allows us to separate audio channels and distribute them correctly to each speaker, creating a true surround sound experience for film screenings.

This integrated design enables the hall to seamlessly switch between:

Live speech and sermon use
Music and event playback
Full surround sound cinema mode

Local Audio Inputs & Connectivity

To ensure flexibility for different user requirements, we installed several local input options:

iPod input plate
Cloud Bluetooth receiver
Two additional microphone inputs located near the equipment cabinet
Dual XLR input plate halfway down the hall

The dual XLR plate allows connection of the Allen & Heath ZED18 PA mixer and the two Audio-Technica wireless microphone systems housed in the Swan flight cases.

This setup allows visiting users, bands, or event organisers to easily connect external mixing equipment without interfering with the fixed installation.
