Sound System Installations Hull

We recently completed a professional sound system installation in Hull at the well-known Hull Truck Theatre, installing a permanent audio system within the upstairs bar performance space. The venue hosts acoustic bands, small live performances, and public presentations, so the system needed to deliver clear, balanced sound while remaining easy for staff to operate.

Professional Performance Sound System

Previously, the theatre relied on a portable speaker system whenever events were held in the bar area. This required staff to set up and dismantle equipment for every performance, which was time-consuming and inconvenient.

Our brief was to design and install a permanent professional sound system that would provide consistent coverage across the performance and bar areas while remaining discreet within the venue’s interior.

Electro-Voice Speaker Installation

For this project we installed four Electro-Voice ZX1 speakers in a black finish to blend with the venue’s interior.

Speaker placement was carefully planned to ensure even sound distribution across the entire space:

• Two speakers installed either side of the performance stage area for primary sound reinforcement
• Two additional speakers installed further back in the room, acting as infill speakers to carry the audio towards the rear of the bar area

This configuration ensures consistent volume levels and excellent clarity, even when the venue is full.

Discreet Cable Installation

Due to the solid concrete ceiling structure, it was necessary to install black plastic conduit to route the speaker cabling neatly across the ceiling.

This approach allowed us to:

• Protect the speaker cabling
• Maintain a tidy and professional finish
• Ensure long-term durability for the installation

A Permanent Audio Solution for Live Events

The completed sound system installation at Hull Truck Theatre now provides the venue with:

• A permanent performance audio system
• Reliable sound coverage across the bar and performance space
• A system suitable for acoustic music, presentations, and spoken word events
• A simple setup that eliminates the need for temporary equipment

This installation allows the theatre team to host events more efficiently while delivering professional sound quality for performers and audiences alike.

As part of the sound system installation at Hull Truck Theatre, we supplied a new professional flight case audio rack to house the system’s control equipment and ensure a tidy, reliable setup for performances in the upstairs bar area.

Portable Control Rack System

Inside the Swan Flight flight case, we installed a Allen & Heath Qu-16 digital PA mixer. This 16-channel mixer provides the theatre team with professional mixing capabilities for live music, spoken word events, and presentations.

The flight case also includes:

• Two of the venue’s existing stereo amplifiers, integrated into the rack to power the installed speaker system

• A rack drawer for safely storing the radio microphone transmitters

• A mains power distribution unit, keeping all equipment powered from a single, organised source

This configuration ensures the system is neatly organised, easy to operate, and simple to maintain for the theatre staff.

Amplifier Upgrade for Downstairs PA System

In addition to the upstairs installation, we also upgraded the theatre’s existing portable PA system used downstairs.

For this system we supplied a Crown XLS1502 stereo amplifier. This modern amplifier provides reliable power, improved efficiency, and excellent audio performance, ensuring the portable PA system continues to deliver clear sound for events held in other areas of the venue.

The completed installation now provides Hull Truck Theatre with:

• A permanent sound system for upstairs performances

• A professional digital mixing environment for live events

• A tidy, organised rack system for easy operation

• An upgraded amplifier for the existing portable PA system
