Definition Audio Visual is pleased to announce the successful completion of a commercial sound system installation at Darfield Working Mens Club, Barnsley. The project was designed to significantly enhance the audio and visual experience throughout the venue, ensuring clear, powerful, and evenly distributed sound for live performances, entertainment, and everyday use.

Stage and Performance Sound System

The primary focus of the installation was the stage performance area. To provide powerful and accurate sound reproduction for live acts and entertainment, we installed a pair of JBL ZLX‑12 speakers. These were securely mounted on Powerdrive wall arm brackets on either side of the stage to achieve optimal sound coverage across the performance area.

The speakers are powered by a Crown LPS 1500, a highly reliable amplifier capable of delivering clean and consistent power, ensuring live performances are reproduced with excellent clarity and impact.

Venue-Wide Audio Coverage

To ensure clear sound throughout the entire club, we installed eight JBL ceiling speakers across the seating areas and near the bar. This provides balanced background music and announcements throughout the venue, ensuring every guest enjoys a consistent listening experience.

These ceiling speakers are powered by two Phonic stereo amplifiers, which provide the necessary power and control to maintain even sound levels throughout the different areas of the club.

Centralised Audio Control

All core audio equipment is centrally located within the control booth, where we installed a Behringer audio mixer. This allows precise control over volume levels, audio routing, and equalisation for various events such as live music, karaoke nights, and presentations.

All amplifiers and control equipment are neatly housed within a wall-mounted rack cabinet located in the cupboard, keeping the installation secure, organised, and easily accessible for maintenance.

Integration with Existing Equipment

As part of the project, we also integrated several pieces of the club’s existing equipment to maximise value and maintain familiarity for the users. This included:

• Two Audio‑Technica handheld wireless radio microphones for announcements and karaoke
• The club’s existing Cloud 46/50, which has been incorporated into the new system

This integration ensures the system remains flexible while making the most of the club’s current equipment.

Simple Remote Volume Control

To make the system easy to operate, we installed three Cloud RSL6 wall control plates at key locations throughout the club. These allow staff to adjust volume levels locally in different areas of the venue without needing access to the main equipment rack.

Visual System Enhancements

In addition to the audio improvements, we also enhanced the venue’s visual capabilities.

Using the club’s existing projection screen, we installed a Mitsubishi Electric widescreen projector with 3500 lumens brightness, providing bright and clear images for events, presentations, and entertainment.

To further support the club’s popular karaoke nights, we mounted a 32-inch TV screen on the wall to act as a dedicated monitor for the karaoke system, ensuring performers can clearly see lyrics and prompts.

To complete the sound system and lighting installation at Darfield Working Mens Club, Barnsley we installed a professional stage lighting system designed to enhance the visual impact of live performances and entertainment events.

Dynamic Stage Lighting Effects

At the heart of the lighting system are four Equinox Ultra Scan LED scanners. These intelligent lighting fixtures provide dynamic movement, vibrant colour effects, and sharp beam patterns. Their scanning capability allows for sweeping light movements across the stage and audience area, creating engaging visual effects that can be tailored to suit different music styles and performance types.

These fixtures bring a professional concert-style lighting experience to the venue, adding energy and excitement to live shows, DJ nights, and karaoke events.

Stage Wash Lighting

To complement the moving effects, we installed six Showtec LED Par cans. These fixtures provide a strong and even wash of colour across the stage, ensuring performers are well illuminated during performances.

LED Par lighting offers several advantages, including:

• Bright and consistent colour output
• Low energy consumption
• Minimal heat generation
• Long operational lifespan

This makes them ideal for venues that regularly host live entertainment.
