Sound System Installations Sheffield

We recently completed a commercial sound system installation for Sumo Digital at their offices in Sheffield. The project focused on transforming the company’s staff canteen into a flexible multi-purpose space capable of supporting presentations, background music, and live performances.

The system was carefully designed to deliver powerful sound coverage while remaining easy for staff to operate on a day-to-day basis.

Speaker System Design

To achieve consistent sound coverage throughout the canteen, we installed a combination of high-quality speakers from Electro-Voice.

Four Electro‑Voice ZX1 speakers were installed as infill units around the space. These provide balanced audio coverage across the room, ensuring music and speech remain clear in all seating areas.

For the main front-of-house system, we installed a pair of Electro‑Voice ZX3 speakers. These powerful speakers feature 12-inch drivers and high-frequency horns capable of delivering excellent projection and clarity for presentations and live performances.

Due to limited ceiling height in the canteen, the ZX3 speakers were mounted horizontally from the steel girders using custom Unistrut brackets, ensuring optimal sound dispersion without compromising the room layout.

Digital Mixer with Wireless Control

To provide intuitive and flexible audio control, we installed a Soundcraft 16-channel digital mixer.

The mixer supports wireless control via an iPad, allowing users to adjust:

• Individual microphone or music channels

• Overall system volume

• Audio levels in different areas of the room

This setup enables staff to manage the system from anywhere in the canteen, making it ideal for presentations, events, and performances.

Amplification and Audio Sources

The speaker system is powered by two QSC stereo amplifiers, providing clean and reliable power to ensure excellent sound quality.

Additional system components include:

• An Audio-Technica wireless radio microphone system for speeches, presentations, and performances

• A Sonos Sonos Connect for background music playback

The Sonos system allows staff to stream music from mobile devices or access a wide range of online radio stations, giving them flexible music options throughout the day.

This installation has transformed the staff canteen at Sumo Digital into a versatile and engaging environment capable of supporting multiple uses, including:

• Staff presentations and company meetings

• Background music during lunch and breaks

• Team events and social gatherings

• Live performances or entertainment

To ensure seamless integration of the audio system while maintaining a clean and flexible environment, we designed a fully portable sound system housed in a Swan mobile flightcase. This solution provides a centralised audio control hub that can be quickly deployed when required and easily stored when the space is used for other purposes.

Professional Audio Equipment Installed

The flightcase contains all the essential equipment required to operate the system, including:

• A Sonos Connect streaming unit for flexible music playback
• An Audio-Technica wireless microphone receiver for presentations and announcements
• A Soundcraft digital mixer for precise control of audio inputs and sound levels

This combination provides a versatile system capable of supporting both background music and live speech.

High-Quality Amplification

To power the speakers, we installed two QSC stereo amplifiers within the flightcase. These amplifiers deliver reliable, high-quality amplification, ensuring clear and powerful sound distribution throughout the room.

Clean and Flexible Installation

To keep the installation discreet, we fitted low-profile XLR wall connection plates around the space. These allow the flightcase to be quickly connected to the building’s audio infrastructure whenever the system is needed.

When the system is not in use, the flightcase can simply be unplugged and wheeled away, freeing up valuable space and keeping the audio equipment neatly out of sight.

Flexible Sound System for Multi-Use Spaces

This portable audio system design provides excellent sound performance while maintaining maximum flexibility. The venue can easily switch between everyday use and event, presentation or performance mode without permanent AV equipment occupying the room.
